SPECIAL: Hand-Sewing Workshop at the Coro Eco Fair Saturday 18th April 1.30pm-3.30pm

Catkin & Scraps will be at this year's Eco Fair at the Coronation Hall in Ulverston on Saturday 18th April. The workshop will start at 1.30pm.

In a two-hour session, Rita will show you how to make a hand-sewn mug rug or mini quilt out of scraps of fabric using a kawandi-inspired technique.

Kawandi is a quilting technique originating in the Siddi community in the south-west of India. Although we won't be making authentic Kawandi, we'll be using the basic Kawandi technique of layering scraps of fabric onto a fabric base and hand-stitching through all the layers.

Basic sewing supplies are available to use but feel free to bring your own if you have them to avoid waiting to use common items such as fabric scissors etc.

The workshop is suitable for any level, including beginners, and any age from 14+.

You will need to be able to use scissors and needles safely and responsibly in order to take part.

Depending on your experience and skill level it is possible you might not entirely finish the project in the two hours, but you will also receive a paper hand-out with instructions to take home with you.

There are only six spaces available so it's wise to book ahead to secure your place, which you can do via this listing or in person at the Ulverston shop.
