Scrappy Sewcial Friday 5th September: Kawandi-Style Placemat or Mini Quilt

A monthly event, the 'Scrappy Sewcial' is a loosely taught workshop with ideas and techniques on using fabric scraps. 

This month I'll show you how to make a placemat or mini quilt using a Kawandi-inspired quilting technique. Kawandi comes from an ethnic group of African descent in Karnataku, India called the Siddi. 

You can choose between two styles - the raw-edge style in the first photo or a more advanced technique (shown in the second photo) that hides any raw edges. Both techniques are done on the machine (traditional Kawandi is done by hand.)

The session takes place on Friday 5th September 10.30am-12.30pm in my little workshop in central Ulverston at Catkin & Scraps. All materials are included, though you are welcome to bring your own scraps if you'd like. 

The group is loosely tutored - which means I will be showing you how to do things and helping you, but also running the shop and serving customers. 

Basic sewing supplies are available to use but feel free to bring your own if you have them to avoid waiting to use common items such as fabric scissors etc.

There are only four spaces available so it's wise to book ahead to secure your place, which you can do via this listing or in person at the Ulverston shop.

Once booked, if you change your mind or circumstances mean that you can no longer come, please let us know as soon as possible. Cancellations less than two full days ahead and no-shows will not be refunded.

The workshop is fairly accessible, but if you have any special requirements as far as access or seating goes please do get in touch and we'll see what we can do.
